A lot of the works Rinko Kawauchi does is more like a “mediation” and she describes them as “[neither] happy nor calm” and more about talking about herself and her works. Rinko has a favoured aesthetic which have an “underlay of quietness”, where she enjoys a certain beauty hidden with silence. She is aware of the Silence in her aesthetic and she embraces the beauty of it. I think she can relate to the Beauty in the silence since she told a reporter during an interview, “I prefer listening to the small voices in our world, those which whisper. I have a feeling I am always being saved by these whispers, my eyes naturally focus on small things.” I think Rinko Kawauchi has a certain personal connection to the small and quiet subtle thing in life and incorporates the same feelings within the beauties of her works.

The photographer’s works influence my views on different themes and concepts of society. Between conventional and unconventional ways of expressing one’s self or just capturing the moment hidden in one’s [daily] life; a moment we wouldn’t usually see as an opportunity to capture and freeze in time. This photographer made me want to capture just ordinary things and perhaps display them in an unordinary way, perhaps display them in a typical way. Rinko Kawauchi has inspired me to express new, typical, strange and subtle but emphasized ways to show a subject. I now want to try and use different hues in lighting to set a mood, like how Rinko Kawauchi used a blue tint in her works. I think my work is now more focused on one subject and emphasizing it by having it be the main focal point, wither with just the subject and nothing else or just have it highlighted with more lightin, like the picture with sewing machine.
